Overcoming Obstacles with SPUNK! take two…

I am obviously far too cynical for my own good and for that I apologise. Some of you may remember a few months ago we posted about the amusing title of a ‘Leadership & Goal-Setting’ self-help book written by L. Diane Wolfe and the subsequent reviews it garnered on Amazon. Read here.

At the time a comment was added to our post from the author of the book. I discounted this as a prank by a friend. It seems however that it was the author of the book and she has also since referred back to The Book of Freak on her own blog: Click here to see the post.

I find this whole saga intriguing and I do hope it translates into positive book sales for L. Diane Wolfe. The banter generated both on Amazon in the comments section and via the blogging to and fro is excellent. I believe that it has spawned some truly witty, if a little juvenile, banter rather than sordid murmurings of pent up sexual deviants.

I do however resent one comment referring to Brits as having their “mind in the gutter” but I’ll let that one slide seeing as we were also poking fun at the comments on Amazon. I am under the impression that the comments were purely satirical in their nature and were in fact poking fun at the use of the word rather than the users being truly disappointed at buying a book that wasn’t literally based on the British meaning of the word.

It seems many people in the US and Canada are still unaware of the British meaning of the word:

“the reason spunk means what it does in England is the same as when North Americans say something has balls – so it is really the same as having enough “spunk” to do something. I like being a Canadian because sometimes we can translate Brits to Yanks and back the other way. Eh?”
Jan Morrison

The word spunk is actually a slang word for Semen or Cum in Britain. I’m sure you can formulate your own sentences making use of this wonderful word now that you understand its true meaning; eg. “She swallowed my… INSERT NEW WORD HERE” but we will not stoop to that level as we are, after all, educated people.

So lets raise a glass to L. Diane Wolfe for being a good sport and joining in with the fun. The comments on Amazon were funny and a good read and the interaction from the author of the original book is to be commended.

Overcoming Obstacles with Spunk…!

Ola, I came across this interesting book on Amazon today. Someone posted the link to me on skype due to its strangely amusing title. In my quest to find out what the book was about I scrolled down and found a number of equally amused people had left some witty comments on the article in question. It was at this point I had decided it was worth a post. The title itself was too weak in humour but the comments made it more deserving I feel.

Click the link here to see the Amazon listing or click the picture below… Scroll down past the picture for a snippet of the comments…

spunkbook

I can’t seem to help myself from reading this, even though I always feel guilty afterwards. It does help me get to sleep, however.

As far as overcoming my obstacles is concerned, I still haven’t managed to fully plaster my walls or decorate my ceiling with spunk. Spunk has also failed to get me my job back as a school bus driver, although I did try to explain quite how much spunk I actually have and was willing to demonstrate the fact – I’m always happy to share…

Quite frankly, the whole experience has left me with an unpleasant taste in my mouth.

From now on, I’ll tease out my own solution without anyone else’s help.
